History

Name: Astradore Amare

Origin: Tear, Tear

Appearance: Of average height, Astradore has waist-long black hair, a complexion that’s dark even for a Tairen, and blue eyes. Her neck is long and swan like, and she is petite though curvy. She likes to wear white and blue stones in a necklace or two, silks and fashionable hairnets; she cares as much about her appearance as she does knowledge and truth-seeking.

Astradore Amare was born in Tear in 951 NE to the beginnings of a well-to-do family—she had both parents and older siblings; she was the youngest. By the time she was ten, her family was fairly well off and mingling with minor lords and ladies; however, her poorer background caused her to be treated with some disgust by noble children. Becoming more withdrawn from people, and spent her time with her head in books instead; encouraged by her mother to learn everything she could. When she became a teenager, the curious and now adventurous girl began to accompany her father’s ship with her oldest sister to help keep track of supplies and ledgers. She grew to love being on a ship during this time. A few years later, on one of these trips, her father fell gravely ill, and fast. Not too far from Tar Valon at the time, and desperate, the sisters took their barely-conscious father to the Tower to get Aes Sedai Healing. The Healing saved him and turned his attitude on Aes Sedai around (in truth he had been lukewarm in the first place), to the point he allowed both of his daughters to get tested. While Lamre had no ability, Astradore passed.

Astradore did not expect she would actually be able to channel, even if she had daydreamed about accomplishing great and awe-inspiring acts with the One Power—in secret, of course, as her parents would never have approved. Thus when the initial test was over and it was announced, she went into shock for some time, and barely remembers the goodbyes to Lamre and father. She was enrolled as a novice in 966 NE.

As a novice, Astradore was well behaved. Occasionally she got in trouble for skirting certain rules, but she never truly crossed any lines, desiring above all else to be a perfect student. Her personality by default was duty-driven. She also is very thorough; she had a habit of over-explaining her line of thinking when it came to decision making, and while sisters discouraged this (she later became much better at being short, clear and concise), it was good for her learning and working skills. Astradore’s biggest fault during this time was her mouth, and having to clean up her language, but she learned to school herself in front of Accepted and Aes Sedai. Due to her strength in the Power, strong ethics for her duty and analytical mind, Astradore became Accepted after five years, in 971 NE.

Astradore was meticulous and had matured as she moved through her Accepted phase. She only got in trouble once, after an unfortunate encounter which resulted in a personal log being read by an Aes Sedai; it contained information recording patterns of which Sisters took charge in what groups; she was long speculating on how Sisters ranked themselves—not to mention who the Ajah heads were–based on observations while training with them. While she never got enough information to solve these problems definitively, the Mistress of Novices made sure to teach her to keep her nose in her own business. It was only three months after this incident Astradore was raised to the shawl, in 975 NE, having spent four years as Accepted.

While something of a bookworm and tempted by some Brown sisters, Astradore chose the White Ajah, believing their cause to be the more important of the two Ajahs; she also did not wish to be tied permanently to the Library, though she did love to spend time there.

Astradore is practical, and cares more for logic and truth than people’s feelings; she was not popular among the novices and Accepted but felt at home among the White Ajah. And though she is well practiced in appearing cool and discouraged from acting on her own feelings, she does have quite a temper, though it rarely shows. She has no patience for people who seem lazy, stupid, or both, and considers most people to be incompetent. Astradore prides herself on being impartial and the less moved by sentiments, interests and personal involvements. At least, she tries her best, but passion for the truth drives her, and she educates herself as much as possible on any subject before reaching a conclusion. She is also loyal to her very few friends, one of which is Jagen of the Red, who taught her in several classes as an Accepted and, unbeknownst to her, was recruiting her as a future ally due to her analytical mind and strength in the Power.
