Aliena Halinor

Basic Information

Age:16
Nation of origin:Andoran. To be more specific, she grew up in the town of Carysford. Carysford is about a two day wagons ride from Caemlyn to the East and Four Kings to the West. The village is located on the River Cary, where the bridge across for the Caemyln Road is located.
Hair:Aliena's hair is a dark brown, and while silky and shiney from constant brushing, it has almost no lighting from the sun. It is very thick and has thick waves, which she considers completely unmanagable. Wanting the hair to be kept from her face, but still have it down for show, she braids her hair back into two braids that are kept in ribbons at the nape of her neck, allowing the rest of her hair to flow down her back.
Eyes:Aliena's eyes, like her hair, are a dark brown, and large. Her eyelashes are very long.
Skin:Her skin tone, while not a pasty white, nor even quite a creamy white, is far from tan. It has alot of pinker tones to it, mainly because her dark hair and eyes offset the paleness of her skin.
Height:5'2
Description:Aliena has scars on both of her knees from scrubbing floors while younger. Both hands have numerous pin pricks and, while not hard, do have the beginning callouses of a woman that works with alot of stitching and sewing. She is not a large woman, but she is voluptuous - not in a sexy, seductive way, but in a very natural, mature woman's way. She dresses very modestly, even for a commoner, wearing woolen dresses of natural tones with a square neck far above any cleavage, a belt around her waist, and none of it clinging too tightly to her body. The ribbons she wears in her hair always matches her dress, as does the slippers.
Voice:Aliena's voice is very gentle, but not musical. She has a lot of flow in her words, and while her voice is not high pitched, it is also not low pitched.
Personality:Aliena is a very happy, helpful girl. She loves to laugh and to make others laugh, as well as talk to others and learn from them. She wants everyone to like her and tries her best to always please everyone.
Special Skills:While it may not be extraordinary, Aliena has a very good memory. Even if she does not understand something, or what it means, she remembers facts and lists very easily. She also has a very large vocabulary due to her ache for knowledge. She is also very good at stitching (like embroidery or needlepoint) and adds beautiful designs to her own slippers, ribbons, and shawls.
Weaknesses:
Knowledge Weakness: While Aliena craves knowledge and reads every book she can get her hands on, she is very ignorant to what occurs outside of Andor. She thinks only of her people and views everyone on the outside to be others, not due to hatred, but because of her lack of knowledge of the existence of other cultures and people.

Physical Weakness: A smaller girl, she has no strength whatsoever physically, except to carry around a tray. She is very bad at sewing clothing, instead preferring to do the decorations on the garments.

Personality Weakness: Aliena is unable to hold her tongue when something really upsets her. She can take criticism, but when it is a personal attack or truly hurt, she will lash out against the other person.

History

Aliena was born the eldest daughter of Garn and Marielle Halinor. Garn, who had long dreamed of fighting for Andor in the Queen’s Guards, had given up his dream due to an injury he had suffered as a young boy. Instead, he chose to take up his father’s place as the Innkeeper for the Crown and Thorns, the most prominent inn in the small town. Given that the Caemlyn Road traveled through the town, and that it was a day’s ride from Caemlyn and the Four Kings, the town exists mostly to serve as a port for the River and as a resting place for weary travelers.

Aliena very quickly became her father’s pride and joy, and grew up to be as kind and welcoming as he was to all who frequented the Inn. She learned to care for the horses that spent the night in their stable, and often got to see beautiful cloth that traveled along the road or river by various merchants. She learned from her mother the art of
stitching and needlework, and immediately fell in love with beautiful intriguing designs on her dresses, belt, slippers, and hair ribbons. In turn, she helped to raise and teach her 3 younger sisters.

Upon reaching the age of 13, Aliena began to change. While she had always been her father’s little girl and her mother’s assistant and miniature, she began to mature and question the outside world. While she had always read books about love, she began to search for books on history and about other countries. Instead of appreciating her
ache for knowledge, her parents began to punish it. They took away her books, and critiqued her when she asked questions. When travelers came in, they sent her to the stable to take care of the horses, instead of allowing her to greet their guests and ask them about their travels. They tried to keep her centered on just Carysford, when she wanted to go to Caemlyn and travel from there.

At 15, she got her dream. Her mother decided it was high time that she and her sisters go to the capital. Up to that time, the only idea that Aliena had of the outside world was what she found in books and overheard in the main room of the inn. The knowledge she had craved for so long was to finally be set before her. The entire ride to Caemlyn, which took two days, she sat in the back, sketching everything that she saw. There was large beautiful farms, and
children playing, and huge trees that must have been alive since the Age of Legends. Everything was new and fresh to her eyes, which had only ever seen Carysford and the people that had travelled through. No books in the world could have prepared her for what she saw, however, when they reached Caemlyn.

It was amazing. The city was absolutely beautiful. Everything from the walls to the gardens to the houses made her speechless. Her wildest dreams were coming true and her imagination was bursting alive. Aliena could only stare as they made their way through the city. Eventually they reached their destination: and inn called the Queen’s Blessing.
Aliena and her sisters were immediately rushed to their room, as though they couldn’t look out the window and see the rest of the world from there. Why were her parents trying to keep her away from everything? What was so dangerous out there that they didn’t even want them to eat with everyone else?

That night, Aliena could resist the outside world no more. She had to see it, and smell it, and take it all in. Sneaking out of the room while everyone else was asleep, she made her way into the common room of the Inn. No one even noticed her as she then slipped outside, and took her first glance around. Everything was amazing. There was lights everywhere, and people still walking about, as if the sun had not already passed that day. As she began walking away from the inn, she didn’t even notice that she was lost. She just wanted to keep seeing more and more.

As time passed, Aliena began to realize that she was, indeed, lost. As she turned around and tried to follow her footsteps back, everything began to seem more and more foreign. She tried asking which way to the Queen’s Blessing, but everyone ignored her. They were all filled with drink and suddenly, the outside world didn’t seem so kind. Eventually, she found herself a bench, and sat down on it, trying to figure out what to do. She didn’t want to cry – after all, she was an adult – but she didn’t know where to go or what to do. How would she ever find her way back? As Aliena pulled her legs to her chest and set her chin on her knees, she looked around one last time, hoping for some familiarity. There was no point in still walking around when she hadn’t the faintest idea on where to go. Sighing, she closed her eyes as silent tears ran down her face.

A cough came from above her, and with a start, Aliena looked up. Standing there was the most beautiful woman. She looked as though she was a fine lady, or even the Queen herself. Oh no, what had she done wrong now?

“Who are you?” Aliena whispered, before coughing and wiping off her tears with her sleeve. Oh great, not only was she crying in the middle of the most beautiful city, she also looked like a blubbering fool to an important Lady.

The woman looked down at her with an interesting look; it appeared as though she was half amused, and half disgusted. “Stop your blubbering child and stand up.”

Aliena did as she was told and jumped up, wiping away the last of her tears and brushing back her hair from her face. The woman looked almost as though she would walk away, so Aliena spoke up.

“Who are you?” she repeated, her curiosity spiking.

The look returned to the beautiful woman’s face, with the amusement peaking. “I am Aes Sedai.” She said simply. What was that supposed to mean? What was an Aes Sedai? Was she supposed to know what that was?

“An Aes Sedai? I have never heard of that before. What does an Aes Sedai do?”

Now the woman’s face went from amusement to almost shock. It was but a glimpse before the face, which looked almost ageless, smoothed out again. “You do not know what an Aes Sedai is? You live in Caemlyn, which has numerous Aes Sedai, do you not?”

Aliena shook her head no. “I only just arrived this morning. I have never really been out of my village before. Where are Aes Sedai from?”

“Child, an Aes Sedai is a channeler. A woman that can touch the One Power. A Servant to All. We train for years in Tar Valon.”

Tar Valon. That name seemed so familiar. She had read it in one of her books. “Tar Valon.” She tried the name on her lips. It sounded so… exotic! “Aes Sedai…” What beautiful words… what a beautiful woman. “How do you become an Aes Sedai? Can I be one? Can I see Tar Valon?”

The woman gave a small laugh. “Child, only those who can channel can go to Tar Valon to become an Aes Sedai. It takes decades to train through the ranks to eventually wear the shawl. You would have to leave everything behind… if you could channel.”

Channel… “I want to channel! Can you teach me?”

The Aes Sedai gave her the same amused look again. “Alright… we can test you. Sit down.”

Aliena did as she was told, sitting down upon the bench she had just risen from. The Aes Sedai pulled a crystal on a chain from somewhere on her person, and held it out before her. Was this some sort of trick? A game? Was was she supposed to do with this?

“Stare, child. Stare into this crystal. Do not break gaze. Just stare.”

Aliena looked at the woman for a moment, wondering what purpose this could show, but she sighed and did it anyways. She stared into the crystal, her mind still wandering as she thought about Tar Valon. She just knew that she had heard that word before.

“Empty your mind, child.”

Empty… mind… This was proving to be pointless. Nothing was happening. What had the woman expected, for a light to suddenly-

Aliena jumped back, as all of a sudden, a light came from the crystal. It was not very bright, nor did it last for very long, but it was there. Did the Aes Sedai do that? Or was it… she had done it. Aliena didn’t know how, but she had done it!

The crystal disappeared into the woman’s pocket, and she smiled, offering her had to Aliena to stand up. “You, dear child, can learn to channel. Come with me. I need to go get the rest of my things so that we can make our way to Tar Valon.”

She had done it. She was going to Tar Valon. She was going to be an Aes Sedai. “Wait! Where is Tar Valon?”

The woman simply smiled, and beckoned Aliena to follow. She did so. “I shall show you child.”

Aliena bounced along behind the Aes Sedai, before remembering her family and her things. “But Aes Sedai, what about my parents? They will be so worried about me. And my things. I need to get clothing at least.”

The Aes Sedai stared at her for a moment, before asking where they were. They quickly made their way to the Queen’s Blessing. Everyone was still asleep, and Aliena burst in to wake everyone up. The Aes Sedai calmed her, and spoke to her parents for a moment while they cried. Why weren’t they proud of her? Why were they so upset. They almost seemed angry. She was going to be an Aes Sedai and learn and do something with her life.

The time went by quickly, as within a few short moments, they were back on the streets again with Aliena’s clothes and a short good bye from her parents. She followed the Aes Sedai to her inn, where she packed quickly. They began their travels to Tar Valon, with Aliena riding upon a borrowed horse. Aliena was beginning her journey to become an Aes Sedai.
